Twain Science Fair - March 28th

2019 Science Fair

All Twain families are invited to join us at the Science Fair to see over 90 fabulous student science projects, participate in astronomical art, make bubble solution, and learn about aquatic animals by examining real
specimens! Registered students will present their projects to “visiting scientists” and lucky attendees will win a door prize.

The Science Fair is a Mark Twain PTSA sponsored event.

Twain PTSA Endorses and Supports LWSD Levy

At the January 2019 general membership meeting, Twain PTSA voted to endorse and support the LWSD Capital Projects Levy on the April 23rd ballot.

The LWSD levy addresses immediate capacity needs and district-wide safety measures. If passed, the levy authorizes a six-year levy totaling $120 million or an average of $20 million per year for six years. The levy maintains the current tax rate with no rate increase.

For Mark Twain Elementary, this means:
- 4 new permanent classrooms
- addition of exterior security cameras
- expansion of core facilities subject to feasibility study

For more information, visit LWSD 2019 levy website.

Dance-a-Thon is Friday, March 29th
The annual PTSA Dance-a-thon fundraiser is coming soon!  The students challenge themselves to dance for 20 minutes during their lunch recess.  The money raised helps the PTSA continue to offer programs like Explore Art, STEM Night, Science Fair and the Back-to-School BBQ as well as grants to the school for educational enhancement, playground equipment and classroom supplies.

Envelopes were sent home last week.  Please encourage your student to reach out to family, friends, and neighbors.  Donations are tax-deductible and qualify for matching funds.  New this year – we can accept donations via credit card online at

The two classes that raise the most money will receive a pizza party!  The class with the highest percent of students bringing in donations will have a classroom movie party.

If you have questions or would like to volunteer, please contact Elizabeth Fortman at Thank you!

LWSD Council Update

Update: LWSD Capital Projects Levy 2019

LWSD announced a capital projects levy for the April 23, 2019 ballot. As our communities continue to grow and thrive at a rapid rate, the LWSD has grown by over 25% since 2008. The levy would add critical classroom space and district-wide school security measures. If passed, the levy authorizes a six-year levy totaling $120 million or an average of $20 million per year for six years. It would maintain the 2019 LWSD tax rate with no tax increase.
